The following article is my take on what may be a current and ongoing USA black ops project some items have been deliberately changed by me, just in case I step on any ones toes, and note the article is a figment of my imagination only, but based on my technical ability.
Facts

Has it occurred to any one that since the fifties and sixties their has only been one official nuclear aircraft project and test flight of a nuclear aircraft, and that this was cancelled on the grounds of cost.

That given the state of the art of present day nuclear reactors i.e. size and weight, and the need for a aircraft that can stay aloft for weeks or more at a time.

That there has not been a renewal of interest by the military in this concept
Fact, that Air breathing scram engines have been tested,

Fact, that hydrogen oxygen engines are a common form of thrust for experimental USA research aircraft.

Fact, That it is possible to condense atmosphere to a liquid.

Fact, that it is possible to electrolyse hydrogen and oxygen from water that on combining the two it produces on ignition a large amount of thrust.
- Fact that if a nuclear power plant were placed in a propeller type aircraft it could fly for months given that the electric power generated could supply the power for the Electro motor powered engines.
All the above are indeed facts if we add to these, new types of airframe material and constructional design features given to us by modern day technology together with new laminar air flow techniques such as ionisation or cooling be it by magnetic effects or other systems. That given all the facts above dose it not seem strange that the USA have not investigated or even carried out or are carrying out such a project as outlined below

BLACK OPPS
The aura projectA technical appraisal of state of the art aura propulsion system, the aura project is considered to be one project, in reality there are two one being a fast tactical aircraft the other a much larger version capable of mother ship docking.
The larger mother ship version is the most advanced and is seen on a random bases around the world and attributed to some UFO reports, but not all.
The two versions share a common power unit but the larger version is a true delta aerodynamic configuration capable of air refuelling its-self, whilst its smaller brother whilst sharing its hydrogen oxygen type engine is not believed capable of air refuelling, the reason being weight restrictions that are not a problem with the larger mother ship.
At this point a authors note is appropriate, as those who know from visiting my web site I take a active interest in propulsion systems, but in more advanced concepts, rather then conventional reaction engines, which for all the advances in the aura project, it is still never the less a reaction system.
Because of my interest in propulsion I am in regular contact with the main players in the field, and pick up information from many different sources, this to protect my self and possibly others I present this as my version drawn from my technical abilities, my imagination and the many scientific articles gleamed from the scientific press that appear in public.
Tactical version, capable of speeds in excess of several thousand of miles per hour, engine hydrogen oxygen, nuclear power plant, state of the art aerodynamic peltier cooling system, stealth capable.
However due to weight problems with the air cracking of hydrogen and oxygen fuel, its flight range is limited to that amount of fuel carried. Although it is thought a limited version of the air refuelling system is under development.
The mother ship
Speed in excess of several thousands of miles per hour, nuclear power plant, peltier aerodynamic cooling, stealth at low speeds, range unknown but thought to be several weeks of flight. Capable of mother ship docking, of tactical version and F18 F22 type of conventional combat aircraft.
Power plants
Nuclear type, capable of several years of power, however in the true sense the system is not a nuclear thruster. The reason the power to weight ratios of the amount of air needed for reaction thrust as against the size of the plant would be a law of diminishing returns, at least at this point in the state of the art design of reactors.
Instead the system employs a state of the art cracking column if we could call it that, it is a well known fact that oxygen and hydrogen can be electrolysed with electricity, in this situation they have gone to extremes, the power required is enormous, hence the nuclear reactor.
At scram speeds and above, air is liquidated and passed through the cracking column were it is separated into hydrogen and oxygen, and stored in fuel tanks, or on demand it is delivered to the reaction engine together with a additive catalyst that give propulsion thrust. Power not being a problem it is a relatively simple operation to refuel when required.
However the refuelling from atmosphere requires high velocity i.e. scram and far above, once below this thresh hold the aircraft would be operating on reserves only returning to high velocity when re-fuelling is required.
At low speed the aircraft is stealthy only at high refuelling speeds is it visible to radar, hence giving raise to UFO reports, the reason for this is the aerodynamic cooling system is still giving problems in that it will not operated at high temperature which is generated at high refuelling speeds
Apart from the exotic type of structure the aircraft would normally be subject to enormous heat, however the aero foil sections are made up of again state of the art peltier substrates, these substrates operate on the principle of the peltier effect and pizo crystal effect, they require enormous power again hence our nuclear power plant, however the faster the aircraft travels the cooler the hull becomes, the limiting factor being the strength of the hull, in this respect the cooling effect at high speed creates a fluidised bed that reduces drag and assist in the cooling process, this in turn as a duel fall back and redundancy system can also to a limited degree double as a pre cursor prior to the liquid air being delivered to the nuclear cracking column.
Technical problems so far remain with the stealth and high temperature at scram speeds and above, the two systems are some what incompatible.
The tactical version has the same type of engine principle in that it burns the same fuels but it can not air refuel its-self at this stage of the development.
